Privacy Policies & Procedures

In compliance with applicable state and federal laws, including the Privacy standard promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the University of Miami has developed the following policies and procedures for the use and disclosure of University patient health information. Our policies and procedures serve two primary purposes:

  1. To ensure the necessary flow of health information that will facilitate the delivery of quality health care to our patients.
  2. To preserve and protect the privacy and confidentiality of our patients’ health information.

Our policies and procedures are applicable to all members of our workforce who come in contact with University patient health information; adherence is therefore strictly mandatory.
