Is there a fee charged for copies of medical records?

When a patient or law office requests copies of medical records, the Privacy Rule permits the covered entity to impose reasonable, cost-based fees. Per University Policy and state law, the Departmental Records Custodian shall charge no more than the reasonable cost of reproducing the records which shall not be more than $1.00 per page for the first 25 pages and $0.25 per page for each page in excess of 25 pages for written or typed documents or reports. For more information, please refer to the University’s Policy on Patient Access to Designated Record Sets .
