**Designated as DSMO. HIPAA's Transactions and Code Set Standard establishes Designated Standard Maintenance Organizations (DSMOs). The Secretary of Health and Human Services may designate as DSMOs those organizations that agree to maintain the standards adopted by the Secretary as "official" for electronic data content.
